What to Expect During an ADHD Evaluation
At Muskegon Flourishing Minds, ADHD evaluations are designed to understand the whole person—not just symptoms. Each assessment is individualized, thorough, and focused on providing an accurate picture of your strengths, challenges, and support needs.
Most evaluations take place over 3–5 appointments, depending on age, concerns, and the level of information needed. While every evaluation is tailored to the individual, the process generally includes the following components:
1. Initial Clinical Interview
Your first appointment focuses on understanding your concerns and your story. We review relevant background information—such as developmental, medical, educational, family, and mental health history—along with current symptoms and daily functioning.
2. Symptom & Functional Review
In the next session, we explore how your symptoms show up across different areas of life. We also consider other factors or conditions that may overlap with or mimic ADHD to ensure an accurate diagnosis. For individuals with more complex histories, an additional interview may be scheduled.
3. Attention & Cognitive Assessment
A structured assessment of attention, focus, and related cognitive skills is completed. For children, additional age‑appropriate measures may be included. Depending on age and endurance, this portion may be completed in one or two sessions.
After all appointments are completed, your clinician carefully reviews and integrates all information—interviews, questionnaires, observations, and assessment results—into a comprehensive diagnostic summary.
4. Feedback & Next Steps
During your final appointment, we review your results together. We discuss any diagnoses, explain your assessment findings, answer questions, and provide individualized recommendations for treatment, school or workplace supports, and next steps.
Every evaluation is unique, and the number or order of appointments may vary based on your needs. Our goal is to provide a thorough, accurate, and personalized evaluation—not a quick or one‑size‑fits‑all approach.
